It’s so exciting to share Sabrina and Thompson’s Coronado destination wedding in at the Hotel Del!
You may remember this lovely couple from their La Jolla engagement photo shoot. This wedding is go great I have to split it into five parts! Part one of this series covers Sabrina and Thompson getting ready and their first look at the Hotel Del Coronado!
Chicago Couple, Coronado Destination Wedding
Sabrina and Thompson’s wedding was held at the famous Hotel Del Coronado!
The Hotel Del is a perfect spot for a Coronado destination wedding. The iconic hotel has five-star amenities, an amazing beach and sits in the heart of downtown Coronado.
For brides and grooms, there are amazing wedding venues at the Hotel Del Coronado. The Windsor Lawn is the perfect spot for a ceremony. The Crown Room and Coronet Room are great for large receptions. I also love the Grand Ballroom, where Sabrina and Thompson had their reception.
Bride Getting Ready at Hotel Del Coronado
Outside the Hanover Room, Sabrina’s gorgeous Lazaro gown and Diane von Furstenberg shoes wait for their big moment.
Sabrina has her makeup done in the Hanover Room. Her subtle makeup and loose hairstyle complemented her elegant style perfectly.
When I shoot in rooms like this that don’t have a ton of decor, I have to keep an eye out for visual elements that break things up. Here, this rolling wooden screen helps provide a unique composition to this image of two bridesmaids getting ready.
Whenever possible, I like to kill the lights in a bridal suite and reposition the bride so everything happens near window light. Not only is the light more flattering, but moving positions can really change the look of a photograph. Here, the window light helps the texture on Sabrina’s Lazaro gown pop.
Sabrina’s Lazaro gown featured a sequined bodice and a layered tule skirt. Dresses like this can be a challenge to put on so it helps to take everything in stride.
The satin bow on Sabrina’s gown is the perfect embellishment!
And so are her DVF shoes!
Sabrina attaches one of her earrings. I love the light reflected off the mirror onto Sabrina’s face as her mother holds the mirror.

Groom Getting Ready Photos at the Hotel Del
Thompson’s best man helps him with the buttons on his shirt.
A groomsmen shows off the custom cufflinks each of them received from Thompson as a groom’s gift. What a fantastic idea!
Thompson tightens his bowtie as his groomsmen make sure he’s looking spot-on for his first look!
Bride and Groom First Look Photos at the Hotel Del Coronado Destination Wedding
Sabrina slowly approaches Thompson, who is starting to feel a bit anxious. But they’re all laughs once they see each other for the first time!
When I can, I like to show scale in photographs, even for intimate moments like a first look. Here, Sabrina and Thompson share a private moment in The Garden.
Sabrina’s dad takes a quick selfie before they head out for the church cermony.
As Sabrina and her father are led to the car by the coordinator, Liz from White Lace Events, a few of her guests catch a glimpse on the steps of the Hotel Del Coronado.
