SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
For Images That Brings You Back to How It Felt
John Schnack is a San Diego wedding photographer serving couples throughout Southern California, including Orange County, Los Angeles, Palm Springs, and destinations worldwide.
With more than 20 years of experience and a background in photojournalism, John combines candid observation with thoughtful direction to create wedding photographs that feel emotionally honest, naturally composed, and timeless. His calm, unobtrusive approach helps couples remain present while preserving the genuine emotion, meaningful relationships, and unforgettable atmosphere of their celebration.
Trust Changes Everything
The freedom to be fully present begins with knowing you’re in thoughtful, experienced hands.
“My job requires me to work with so many talented photographers… finding the right one was a challenge for me. John’s work caught my eye as his images all feel so real.”
-Ruth

Presence Over Performance
The moments you’ll treasure most rarely happen on cue. They unfold in the glances, gestures, laughter, and emotion that surface when you’re free to stop performing for the camera and simply experience the day. My approach to wedding photography combines candid observation with thoughtful direction, stepping in when you need guidance and leaving space when the moment belongs entirely to you.

“John is an incredible artist, but it’s his compassion and genuine care for others that make his work so extraordinary.”
-Emily

A Calm, Considered Experience
The best photographs happen when you’re free to forget about the camera. And that freedom begins long before the wedding day, with thoughtful preparation, clear communication, and the confidence that every meaningful moment will be noticed. Throughout the process, you’ll receive the guidance you need without ever feeling that your wedding has become a photo shoot.
Every Celebration Has a Story

Sunset Soirée
Desiree and Hung welcomed their guests aboard a private yacht on San Diego Bay, where In-N-Out, Cristal, and a glowing waterfront sunset set the tone for the celebration ahead.
Oceanfront Elegance
Nikki and Matt’s wedding at St. Malo in San Diego brought together an intimate beachfront ceremony and an elegant tennis-court reception—an oceanfront celebration filled with heartfelt emotion and unexpected beauty.

A Celebration, Continued
The morning after their Fairmont Grand Del Mar wedding, Tiffany and Kevin gathered everyone together again for a relaxed, joy-filled day of music, color, and celebration with nowhere else to be.
What Remains
Long after the flowers have faded and the music has ended, the photographs will remain. Not simply as a record of how your wedding looked, but as a way back to the people, the emotion, and the moments that made it yours.

questions, Answered
01.
Where are you based, and where do you photograph weddings?
I’m based in San Diego and photograph weddings throughout Southern California, including Orange County, Los Angeles, and Palm Springs. I’m also available for destination weddings and celebrations beyond California.
02.
How would you describe your photographic approach?
My approach combines candid observation with thoughtful direction. I preserve the moments that unfold naturally while offering calm, purposeful guidance when it helps you feel comfortable and look your best.
03.
What if we’re not comfortable in front of the camera?
You don’t need to know how to pose or perform for the camera. I’ll provide direction when you need it, create space when you don’t, and help you remain focused on each other and the people you love.
04.
Do you photograph full wedding weekends?
Yes. Coverage can include welcome dinners, rehearsal celebrations, the wedding day, and day-after events. Photographing the wider celebration creates a more complete story of the people and experiences that made the weekend meaningful.
05.
Do you photograph weddings on film?
Yes. I use medium-format film selectively during portraits, where its distinctive depth, texture, and tonal quality can be approached with intention. It complements my digital coverage while giving these photographs a timeless, tactile character.
06.
Do you photograph destination weddings?
Yes. I photograph destination weddings and multi-day celebrations outside Southern California. Share the location and plans you’re considering when you inquire, and we can discuss the coverage your celebration calls for.
