Union Station Engagement Photos : Joe + Steve

It’s so exciting to share Joe and Steve’s Union Station engagement photos!

You may remember Joe and Steve from their Carondelet House engagement photos. That warm atmosphere gives way to the grit and color of DTLA!

Downtown LA Engagement Photos

Before Union Station, our first location is Olvera Street. Olvera Street is commonly called the birthplace of LA. The street is named after Augustin Olvera, the county’s first judge and resident of the original settlement on the street.

Olvera Street is a great place for engagement photos! The narrow street is filled with vendors and the color of the buildings is fantastic!

The color of this wall at this time of day is amazing! The ridges give it an amazing texture and Steve’s lean-back is the perfect pose for this image.

A short walk across the street from Olvera Street is the marvelous Union Station! Built in 1939, Union Station is a mix of Spanish Colonial, Mission Revival and Art Deco architecture now commonly referred to as “Mission Moderne”.

Joe and Steve pose in front of an Art Deco detail. You don’t see a ton of this type of architecture in LA, so with Union Station engagement photos it’s important to incorporate elements like this!

In any couple, one person is usually more comfortable in front of the camera, and in this couple it’s Steve, a former professional dancer. His posing is effortless and he was very good about leading Joe.

Walking into Union Station is like a passage through time. When a location has unique elements like this its important to call attention to them in the images.

On the left, Joe and Steve pose at one of the ticket counters, complete with a vintage sign. On the right is the main entrance to the station. In the afternoon the sun streams through the decorative elements at the top and creates amazing light.

Same spot as the image above, but this time in black and white. The monochrome gives it a vintage feel that I really love.
