A Spectacular Mauna Kea Resort Wedding
For Brooke and David, selecting a photographer for their Mauna Kea Resort wedding was a meticulous process. They knew their vision: timeless images that showcased their special day from beginning to end. And as they sifted through countless portfolios, they kept returning to mine.
What drew them in were the classic qualities of my photographs. But beyond my technique, they appreciated my ability to connect with them personally.
My aim is to not only capture images but to create a relaxed and enjoyable experience. And Brooke and David, like many, didn’t want a staged or performative wedding day for their celebration on the Big Island.
Mauna Kea Resort Wedding : A Stress-Free Photography Experience
“David and I are not people who enjoy the spotlight,” Brooke said. “But John provided tons of guidance for posing and made it such a fun and easy experience.”
Before their Mauna Kea Resort wedding, I also arranged an engagement photoshoot for the couple. This session served as a vital bridge between us and allowed us to get better acquainted— fostering comfort and trust. Their pre-wedding jitters were natural, but this photoshoot helped alleviate them, ensuring they felt completely at ease in front of the camera when their big day arrived.
Additionally, this session offered me valuable insights into their dynamic as a couple, enabling me to understand their vision for their photographs better—including family photos, which can often be daunting for couples.
Coordinating the different groups and pairings to capture all the desired images can be challenging. But because I take a systematic approach and request a list of photos in advance, working through family photos on the wedding day is a breeze.
For David and Brooke, this organized process ensured they had all the cherished family shots they desired without missing out on other important moments during their Mauna Kea Resort wedding.
And one of their favorite moments of their Mauna Kea Resort wedding? Sunset portraits after the ceremony. “John captured such beautiful photos during this time, and we were so fortunate to have beautiful golden hour lighting for these photos by the beach,” Brooke noted. “John went above and beyond to capture ‘the shot’ and at one point was even hanging onto a stair rail to capture the perfect photo.”
What I love most about this story is that Brooke and David were so excited to receive their final wedding photos that they turned it into a special date night, complete with a fancy dinner and their wedding China.
With the photos displayed on their TV screen, they spent over three hours savoring each image, reminiscing about the beautiful memories associated with them.
Now THAT’S a great way to relive your wedding day!
