Five Reasons Why You Should Get Married at Vista Valley Country Club

I’ve lived in North County all my life and, as a photographer, have shot weddings in San Diego at nearly every venue. But a few years back I was booked to shoot a wedding at Vista Valley Country Club. I’d never heard of it but, as it turns out, it has been a hidden gem for decades. Recently, the club has been renovated by new owners and turned into a wedding venue unlike any other in San Diego County.

A Little Slice of France

Vista Valley Country Club and its sister property, Cal-a-Vie Health Spa, sit nestled on 450 private acres in a secluded valley in Vista, California, 40 miles north of San Diego. The new owners—self-admitted Francophiles—designed the club to reflect the their trips to France. This Provençal style is mirrored throughout the property, which is decorated with countless French antiques— acquired during the Havens’ French buying trips.

Amazing Bridal Suite

Every wedding photographer in San Diego has their own personal list of their favorite bridal suites. Near the top of mine is the bridal suite at Vista Valley Country Club. It has everything a bride could want: ample space, beautiful light and gorgeous decor.

Incredible Ceremony Space

As if the bridal suite weren’t enough, the ceremony space is even more jaw dropping!

Created with historical significance, Vista Valley Country Club's ceremony site boasts 18th Century Gates and Columns imported from Provence, France, unique Antique Stone Windows reclaimed from the 1700 L'Orangerie in the South of France, and shade timbers ordered in the 1730s by George Washington!

Serenity and Seclusion

Vista Valley Country Club sits in a narrow valley in rural northeastern Vista, between I-15 and Vista proper. Unlike many wedding venues in San Diego, VVCC only hosts one wedding per day, so you’re getting dedicated service from the club’s friendly staff. Because it’s so secluded, it incredibly quiet and serene.

Great Spots for Wedding Photography

As a wedding photographer in San Diego, I’m always on the lookout for amazing spots to photography my amazing couples. At VVCC, there’s no shortage of amazing locations. Plus, the imported French antiques make your images feel like you’re actually in France!

But my absolute FAVORITE spot on the property is a simple tree on the tee box of the golf course’s 12th hole. The tree sits atop a rise and, late in the afternoon, when the light is just right, its a location unlike any other wedding photo location in San Diego!

So there you have it—five reasons why you should get married at Vista Valley Country Club!

My Five Favorite San Diego Engagement Session Locations!

San Diego County offers some of the most amazing locations for an engagement shoots! I’ve photographed hundreds of engagement sessions in San Diego and here are my five favorite places!

The village of Coronado offers so many different looks in a small area, perfect for San Diego wedding photographers like me who like multi-location, multi-wardrobe engagement sessions. The village area along Orange avenue is a killer mix of new shops and old Coronado charm. There’s also the iconic Hotel Del Coronado, but watch out for crowds in the summer and on weekends! Finally, there’s the amazing beach, one of the only beaches in San Diego that faces due south, so the lighting is amazing!

La Jolla

Ah, the jewel! Like Coronado, it’s a great spot to mix in a bunch of locations and wardrobe changes within a small area and timeframe. The village of La Jolla combines its beach-village history with a bustling shopping and dining scene. The beach is, well, one of a kind. Amazing cliffs, tide pools and coves make it the perfect place for a beach engagement session.

Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines State Reserve is a 2000-acre state park made up of a plateau with cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean and a gorgeous lagoon that empties into the ocean to the north. Words cannot do it justice; it needs to be experienced first hand!

Again, it’s a great spot to mix in a bunch of different looks. There’s the beach, of course. Looking to the south one is taken aback by the towering cliffs that run right to the sand. To the north, an amazing vista towards Del Mar. The plateau area is a wonderful mix of trails with amazing trees, plants and textured cliffs.

Balboa Park

Alcazar Gardens. The Museum of Man. The Laurel Street bridge. What more can be said? So many locations to choose from—all beautiful and unique in their own right.

North Park

Bet you didn’t see this one coming! It’s my little secret spot when I’ve got couples who want something a little different for their San Diego engagement shoot.

Vibrantly colored walls and a wonderful mix of old and new make North Park one of my favorite San Diego engagement photo locations! Check out the gallery below for some wonderful engagement photos and portraits!
