A wonderful Balboa Park engagement session featuring Ashley and Stephen. Ashley and Stephen are getting married later this year at the El Cortez in San Diego. Balboa Park is so much more than the museums--there are so many nooks and crannies of great light if you're willing to open your eyes a bit.
First up from a double-wedding weekend is Katie and Joe. For Katie and Joe;s El Cortez wedding, they were married at St. Joseph Cathedral and held their reception at the historic El Cortez, both just blocks away from each other in downtown San Diego. Special thanks to Susanne Duffy from Crown Weddings, whose team coordinated the event flawlessly. It had been a long time since we'd worked together but so great to reconnect. Also thanks to my good friend Tam and her crew from Isari Flowers--gorgeous work!
Also, hats-off to my longtime teammate, Lindsey Byrnes, who finally returned to me from the clutches of a summer-long schedule covering top bands around the world.

I was really excited to photograph the Rancho Santa Fe wedding of some old friends of mine, Lara and Nelz. The lovely couple were married at the Rancho Santa Fe Garden Club, a quaint venue in the heart of Rancho Santa Fe. In addition to close family and friends, Lara and Nelz were joined by their dog, Cassius, who donned a couture dog tuxedo. [Images photographed on Fuji 400H and Fuji Superia 800 film.]
This past Saturday I had the distinct pleasure of photographing Rachel and Colin's Westgate Hotel wedding in downtown San Diego. The Westgate Hotel is a real gem, a little slice of classic European styling right smack-dab in the middle of America's Finest City. It's subtleties were perfectly suited for Rachel and Colin's elegant affair. And the light--ohhh, the light--was incredible, unlike anything I've seen inside a venue in San Diego. Soft, creamy, like ice cream on a hot summer evening.
Rachel and Colin's ceremony was held on the hotel's rooftop terrace, with stunning views of downtown. The reception was held in the gorgeous Versailles Ballroom, where Rachel and Colin's design tastes melded perfectly with the room's decor. That is to say, let the environment do the work; Rachel and Colin did just that.
A huge thanks to Cara from Luxe Special Events for coordinating the evening. She did a marvelous job pulling together all the pieces and making sure the night ran smoothly. And thanks as always to my associate photographer, Mike, for his fantastic work and steady demeanor.
