My Five Favorite San Diego Engagement Session Locations!

San Diego County offers some of the most amazing locations for an engagement shoots! I’ve photographed hundreds of engagement sessions in San Diego and here are my five favorite places!

The village of Coronado offers so many different looks in a small area, perfect for San Diego wedding photographers like me who like multi-location, multi-wardrobe engagement sessions. The village area along Orange avenue is a killer mix of new shops and old Coronado charm. There’s also the iconic Hotel Del Coronado, but watch out for crowds in the summer and on weekends! Finally, there’s the amazing beach, one of the only beaches in San Diego that faces due south, so the lighting is amazing!

La Jolla

Ah, the jewel! Like Coronado, it’s a great spot to mix in a bunch of locations and wardrobe changes within a small area and timeframe. The village of La Jolla combines its beach-village history with a bustling shopping and dining scene. The beach is, well, one of a kind. Amazing cliffs, tide pools and coves make it the perfect place for a beach engagement session.

Torrey Pines

Torrey Pines State Reserve is a 2000-acre state park made up of a plateau with cliffs that overlook the Pacific Ocean and a gorgeous lagoon that empties into the ocean to the north. Words cannot do it justice; it needs to be experienced first hand!

Again, it’s a great spot to mix in a bunch of different looks. There’s the beach, of course. Looking to the south one is taken aback by the towering cliffs that run right to the sand. To the north, an amazing vista towards Del Mar. The plateau area is a wonderful mix of trails with amazing trees, plants and textured cliffs.

Balboa Park

Alcazar Gardens. The Museum of Man. The Laurel Street bridge. What more can be said? So many locations to choose from—all beautiful and unique in their own right.

North Park

Bet you didn’t see this one coming! It’s my little secret spot when I’ve got couples who want something a little different for their San Diego engagement shoot.

Vibrantly colored walls and a wonderful mix of old and new make North Park one of my favorite San Diego engagement photo locations! Check out the gallery below for some wonderful engagement photos and portraits!

Teri + Rand : Santa Barbara Engagement Photos

A fantastic end of the week was spent photographing Teri and Rand's Santa Barbara engagement photos!  The shoot's first location was the gorgeous Old Mission Santa Barbara, which was surprisingly uncrowded.  The light was gorgeous under the arches at the front of the mission.  Our next location was in and around State Street in downtown Santa Barbara.  As the light got lower, we headed to the otherworldly Douglas Family Preserve.  All in all an incredible engagement shoot!  I'm really looking forward to working with Teri and Rand on their wedding at the Twin Peaks Ranch in Ojai, Calif., in August! undefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefinedundefined

Courtney and Chris : Newport Beach Engagement Photos

During a brief break from what continues to be the longest SoCal winter I can remember, I jammed up to Orange County to take advantage of the sunshine and to shoot Courtney and Chris's Newport Beach engagement photos.  Courtney and Chris are having a destination wedding in Lake Almanor, Calif., in September and I'm so excited to be working with them! I met Courtney a few years back when she was the bridesmaid in a destination wedding I photographed in San Sebastian, Spain.  Courtney and Chris are two of the sweetest people you'll ever meet.  And Courtney... those eyes.

The first part of the shoot took place at A Restaurant, one of Courtney and Chris's favorite haunts.  After a quick cocktail there we headed over to the Newport Harbor Yacht Club, which is a special place for Courtney and Chris.  Not only are they members, but it is here that, years ago, Courtney's great grandmother proposed to her great grandfather.  From there we headed down the Balboa Peninsula and to the beach to capture the last light of the day.
