I've been blessed to photograph some amazing weddings in California. But near the top of my favorites list has to be this St Malo Beach wedding in Oceanside.
New York Couple, St Malo Beach Wedding
Although Brittany hails from SoCal, she and Dave live and work in New York. One of the first things they did was plan the wedding around her family home in St. Malo Beach. The private, gate-guarded community is one of the best beach wedding venues in San Diego.
The Mother of All Reception Transformations
Since St. Malo is a residential neighborhood, the only place to have a decent-sized wedding reception is an old, beat-up tennis court. It requires bringing in everything: linens, tables, chairs, food...EVERYTHING. But when you have a stylist and coordinator like Platinum Weddings by Kerrie, the largest and most complex transformations are a breeze.
A Dream Team of Wedding Vendors
Brittany and Dave's St Malo Beach wedding featured a dream team of vendors. First and foremost, Kerrie Petrie from Platinum Weddings by Kerrie. Her styling acumen and management skills were just what were required to pull off this amazing event. Brittany's gown was designed by the one and only Suzanne Neville. Floral design was done by one of my favorites, Isari Flower Studio. Catering and bar service was done by Waters Catering. Entertainment was done by the amazing DeBois Entertainment. Wedding cake by Sweet Cheeks Baking Co.

One of San Diego's Best Wedding Venues
Tucked away in the hills northeast of San Diego lies one of the area's best wedding venues: The Inn at Rancho Santa Fe. The property sits like an oracle, raised on a hill at the very western end of the Village of Rancho Santa Fe. Its grounds, lush with vibrant lawns and colorful plants, make it the perfect place for a garden wedding and reception.
A Great Venue for a Romantic Garden Wedding
There are a handful of areas on the property to hold a wedding. Los Angeles residents Shelley and Barry opted to hold their wedding ceremony on the lower lawn, which, for the guests, has wonderful views looking back toward the property. Their reception was held on the Azalea Lawn, tucked away from the rest of the property and hotel guests, underneath soft market lights and surrounded by foliage.
Amazing Wedding Vendors
Their wedding was coordinated and styled by one of my favorites, Molly of Tres Chic Affairs. Her eye for styling and her ability to manage even the most difficult projects makes her one of Southern California's most sought-after wedding planners. Cake and desserts were provided by Hey There Cupcake! and the iconic VG Donuts. Floral design was done by the one and only Bespoke Floral and Event Design. Finally, hair and makeup was provided by SoCal Hair and Makeup.
Last September, I photographed Brittney and David's wonderful San Diego beach wedding at St. Malo. Their wedding reception involved one of the most amazing transformations of a space I've ever seen! The transformation was led by Kerrie of Platinum Weddings by Kerrie, one of my favorite wedding planners! To begin, it involved a base floor installed over the entire expanse of the rustic tennis court, with a supple white carpet laid atop the base.
Next, white draping was hanged on the south, west and east sides to block distracting elements outside the court and give the space a closed-off and cozy feel. Gelled uplighting was shone upon the white draping, which added dimension to the perimeter. Market lights were strung overhead to give the area a warm ambiance.

The Hotel Del Coronado is an iconic hotel, so it's only fitting that the hotel's antique elevator is equally charming. It was the perfect setting for Chase and Matt's last romantic portrait.
